I find it both understandable and amazing that we can believe that our brains are so plastic. Undoubtedly we think differently, and difference (as John Davitt proposed yesterday at the Institute of Education) is an important consideration in how we approach learning. But in this article I see a good old-fashioned jealousy-founded complaint about teenagers' freedom and adult constraint, that drives so many grown-ups to drivel. Our task is to be liberal in accomodating diverse approaches to learning and focus on what matters - motivation, importance, process, community, environment, source, assessment and recognition.
