Thanks Adrian for link.

Welcome to Andy's first blog what's this blog going to cover Tech for Good, Outdoor stuff and challenge Adventure and some fun stuff you didn't know about me. Why Andy's Black Hole? Well it was going to be called Andy's Ramblings from edge but Katrina Lambert came up with a better suggestion. What’s it for? A place Andy can dump all the things he come across that might be useful to those people living the dream of #Justdoinggood

Following the success of the inaugural E-Learning Debate at The Oxford Union in September, Epic is staging another debate in the seminar theatre at Learning Technologies, London Olympia, on Wednesday 27th January. To be honest;s its got some real giants of the world that is mobile speaking . All the participant are well versed academics but all are real pragmatists with strongly held views its going to a great debate one to attend or follow . Its a complex motion from many angles. Is it the right motion only time will tell with participants having space to approach
The motion is: 'This house believes that learning on smart phones is less about new technology than it is about a new approach to pedagogy'.
Professors John Traxler and Mike Sharples, acknowledged experts in mobile learning, will lead the arguments For and Against, accompanied by Kim Whittlestone of the Royal Veterinary College and Dr Mike Short of O2.
Epic are also bring out one of the well known some say "Epic" white papers this one fits nicely with debate topic 'Smart Phone Learning' .

This exciting new leadership award enables students to gain valuable experience and responsibility within the field of ICT. Similar to the Sports Leaders Award, the YICTL is comprised of six units. Each unit develops a different aspect of leadership.
Some of the leadership tasks might include: support in ICT classes, support/ delivery to small groups, create resources for cross-curricular ICT, run ICT clubs/ workshops for staff and pupils, extended workshops for gifted and talented students, develop and maintain annual update news/ newsletter, run ICT clubs/ workshops in local primary schools, develop a student council website and forum (intranet).
Evidence for the award is collected, logged and presented through the e-portfolio (see link above). It can be in the form of text, video, images, sound recordings and more. To pass, all criteria must be met and sufficient evidence presented to your tutor/moderator.

Had a brilliant week but really had my mindset challenged. Now reguar readers know I keep banging on the fact the next billion users of the internet will be from mobile devices. Read earlier post from ITU. But what ive missed is the role that limited bandwidth will have on those users. See story on south african broadband http://www.osnews.com/story/22149/Carrier_Pigeon_Faster_Than_South-African_Broadband
even simple webpages will take ages to load if they load at all no youtube etc just think . Ive dscovered Mixit this week thanks to Adele Botha this is a social etworking app for mobile phones you never heard of it. Well wake up there are 16million users in africa . The role of the mobile cevice that nevers go near a desktop laptop to sync is vital. the role of sms cant be over stressed and the wake up to the fact outrageous charges for data no longer tolerated in most of europe are alive and well in Africa .
So bit of a rant dont go mad on media rich papers if you want to reach a wider audience think lean code and good old wap .
But this really had made me think and also not to get diverted by the shiny and new of the I or G Phone if we are serious about digtal inclusion outside developed north think second generation devices not fifth genration moble devices.
