Twitter,Facebook and SMS on TED

While news from Iran streams to the world, Clay Shirky shows how Facebook, Twitter and TXTs help citizens in repressive regimes to report on real news, bypassing censors (however briefly). The end of top-down control of news is changing the nature of politics.

it makes me think how new media like twitter,facebook and not so new txt (AKA SMS) is a powerful tool . As I face my up and coming challenge http://momlejog.blogspot.com/ http://www.justgiving.com/andyblack1 and look at ways of keeping friends,supporters family informed while highly mobile on a bike . This is a flippant example but the parrallels between complex political situation and my own personal challenge are to me very marked .

Whays interesting even on election day which network was turned off interupted first the sms network interesting eh !!

100th twitter follower compared to 100th Facebook friend

I blogged back in October about my adding my 100th Facebook Friend http://andysblackhole.blogspot.com/2008/10/100-facebook-friends.html I am just about to add my 100th follower on twitter . Well it just happens to be John Traxler of Wolverhampton Universities Learning Lab.

Twitter took me as it does many users a while to get but my advice is stick with it . Twitter is becoming for many there own Personal Learning Network and Drew Buddie aka Digitalmaverick suggests it is his google . Twitter it appears to me has widened my network made it accross the the education sector . The big impact has been personally in international contacts. Now I know its personal but twitter seems to work for me!

Facebook fifty

As a late arrival to Facebook party I have just realised I have hit the magic fifty of Facebook friends . As a billy no mates of the face to face world I have using facebook quite a lot .
What have I gained :-

• better network
• more regular contact with friends
  
• Insight into my friends activities both in the area of their work but also in wider their activity
• Interesting invites to invite via invitation function within Facebook (got to give Steve Moore of policy unplugged a huge heads up for his work in this area)
• exposure to interesting applications

What it caused is blurring between personal ilfe online and working life online.
