Now figures of no maintaining labs are obvious but has anybody looked at providing printing niche software (CAD modelling for example) and simple stuff like power socket provision . Anybody seen figures on this feel free to comment and share.

Andy I think the big problem at the moment at my school would be simply managing them. Power supplies getting network access etc. However they would be good problems to have!
It is a good problem, we have a dedicated area in the Open Access Area for students with laptops, but they do spill out in to the library with trailing cables. It has made us wonder if we really need so many IT rooms......
Don't tell your SMT, they'll cut your budget!
